Baris Balcioglu

Baris Balcioglu, Collaborating Professor
Professor Balcioglu received BS and MS degrees from Bilkent University in Turkey, and his PhD from Rutgers. He is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the University of Toronto, where his research interests are in stochastic models, the analysis of queueing systems, production/inventory systems, call centers, and simulation. He collaborates with C-MORE on a number of projects.

Prof. Beck
Chris Beck, Collaborating Professor
Professor Beck received his BSc from St. Francis Xavier University, and MSc and PhD degrees from the University of Toronto. Before his appointment to the University's faculty, he worked on ILOG's Scheduler Team in Paris, France and at the Cork Constraint Computation Centre in Ireland. At the University of Toronto, Professor Beck's research interests have included scheduling, optimization under uncertainty, queuing theory, online algorithms, heuristic search, and constraint programming. He collaborates with C-MORE on projects related to maintenance scheduling.

Roy Kwon, Collaborating Professor
Dr. Roy H. Kwon is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering with a primary focus in operations research (mathematical programming). He is also a member of the faculty in Mathematical Finance Department (MMF) at the University of Toronto. Dr. Kwon has experience in operations research consulting in the defense, financial, and management consulting industries.

Sharareh Taghipour

Sharareh Taghipour, Collaborating Professor
Professor Taghipour joined the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at Ryerson University as an Assistant Professor in 2012. Prior her appointment to the University's faculty, she worked as a postdoctoral fellow for about a year at the C-MORE. She obtained her PhD in Industrial Engineering from the University of Toronto, and received her BSc in Mathematics and Computer Science and her MASc in Industrial Engineering, both from Sharif University of Technology, Iran. Her research interests include reliability engineering, inspection and maintenance optimization, stochastic operations research, statistical analysis, and novel applications of maintenance optimization models, such as optimization of cancer screening. She also holds a status-only Assistant Professor appointment in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the University of Toronto, and collaborates with the C-MORE on a number of projects. Sharareh Taghipour

Vinh Quan, Collaborating Professor
Dr. Vinh Quan is a Lecturer in Management Science in the Department of Management at the University of Toronto at Scarborough and an Adjunct Professor in the Mechanical & Industrial Engineering at Ryerson University.  He also worked as an Optimization Specialist, Sr. Optimization Developer and Sr. Solutions Engineer at Workbrain Inc. from 2003-2006.  Dr. Quan received his Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from the University of Toronto and has research interests in the area of scheduling and optimization.

Dragan Banjevic, Project Director
Dr. Banjevic holds BSc, MSc and PhD degrees in statistics from the University of Belgrade, Yugoslavia. He directs the theoretical research component of C-MORE projects, including approaches to reliability and the establishment of mathematical procedures for the implementation of functional routines for maintenance decision-making. Dr. Banjevic's past non-academic work includes the automotive industry, hospital research, and statistical consulting to civil engineers engaged in road building. Currently he teaches as a visiting professor in both the University's Department of Statistics and the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering.

Neil Montgomery, Statistician
Mr. Montgomery works with Consortium members and other organizations on data-driven evidence-based asset management decisions.
Ali Zuashkiani
Ali Zuashkiani, Director of Educational Programs and Research Associate
Dr. Zuashkiani obtained his PhD from the University of Toronto, at C-MORE. He obtained his BSc in Industrial Engineering from Sharif University of Technology in Iran. His research activities are centered around condition-based maintenance, expert knowledge in reliability assessment, Bayesian statistics, maintenance performance measurement and maintenance management.
Yasin Gocgun, Postdoctoral Research Fellow
Dr. Gocgun earned his BS and MS degrees in Industrial Engineering at Bilkent University, Turkey. He completed his PhD in Industrial Engineering at the University of Washington. His research interests include Operations Research in healthcare, Approximate Dynamic Programming, and scheduling. Dr. Gocgun is currently working on developing optimization models for breast cancer screening.
Maliheh Aramon Maliheh Aramon | Maliheh Aramon completed her PhD with C-MORE in December 2013, and accepted a position at C-MORE as a postdoctoral fellow. She is currently doing work in the area of maintenance scheduling problems from a stochastic perspective. She completed her BASc and MASc at the University of Tehran, Iran.
Maliheh Aramon Turuna Seecharan | Turuna Seecharan is a post-doctoral fellow at C-MORE where she works on the AUTO21 Driving Simulation Eco-Drive Training Project. Prior to joining C-MORE, she received her BSc in Industrial Engineering from the University of the West Indies, Trinidad and her MASc and PhD degrees in Systems Design Engineering from the University of Waterloo.

Dr. Thompson has a PhD in Canadian Literature from the University of Western Ontario.

Former C-MORE Research Staff

Hossein Mohammadian, PEng
Dr. Mohammadian completed his study in Mechanical Engineering at Laval University, Canada. He has several years of experience in reliability and maintenance of stationary and rotating equipment. Currently he is working on the inspection and maintenance of airports’ equipment and oil/gas pipeline systems.
Daming Lin
Daming Lin, Research Associate
Dr. Lin obtained his BSc and MSc in applied mathematics at Peking University and Academia Sinic, China, respectively, and his PhD in statistics from the University of Hong Kong. The bulk of his work at C-MORE is with OMDEC on the commercialization of the EXAKT software.
Nima Safaei

Nima Safaei, Senior Maintenance Planning Specialist
Dr. Safaei joined C-MORE in October 2007. He received a BS in Applied Mathematics from University of Mazandaran, Babolsar, graduated in Industrial Engineering from Mazandaran University of Science & Technology, Babol, and received his PhD degree in Industrial Engineering from Iran University of Science & Technology, Tehran. He held a four-year postdoctoral position at the C-MORE.He is currently working at Bombardier Aerospace, Toronto, Canada, as a senior maintenance planning specialist. Find out more here!

Dr. Taghipour obtained her PhD in Industrial Engineering from the University of Toronto, at the
C-MORE. She was a postdoctoral fellow for about a year at the C-MORE working on a collaborative health research project with Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto titled “Risk factors and optimization model for breast cancer screening”.
