David Berger, Western Management Consultants

David BergerDavid Berger is the Founding President for Plant Engineering & Maintenance Association of Canada. Mr. Berger has done extensive work in the areas of strategy, performance measurement, process engineering, information technology, customer relationship management, organizational design and change management. This includes large projects involving business process redesign, IT procurement, acquisitions & mergers, logistics and supply chain management, outsourcing and co-sourcing, from development of the business case to implementation. Mr. Berger has also consulted to dozens of CMMS/EAM software companies over the past 20+ years including conducting market research, facilitating strategic planning sessions, assisting with marketing, creating white papers, and advising on development approach, prioritization, and improved functionality.

Larry Cote, CINDE

Larry CoteLarry Cote is the President and Chief Executive Officer, for the Canadian Institute for NDE. As Canada's national non-profit membership based society for the people and companies engaged in the business of non destructive testing (NDT), with over 30 years delivering world class training for NDT and operated a full-service government approved certification test center. Mr. Cote joined CINDE in 2007 as a Project Manager and became the CINDE Managing Director in 2010. In his current capacity he works with the Executive Committee and Board of Directors to achieve the goals of the CINDE 2020 Strategic Plan.

Mr. Cote has served in a wide variety of roles with technical societies including STLE, ICML, AISE, ISO, ASTM and SMRP, and has significant experience in the development and delivery of personnel certification programs. Throughout his career he has delivered hundreds of presentations at national and international conferences, workshops and seminars.

Christer Idhammer, IDCON Inc.

Chister IdhammerChrister Idhammar is a world renowned expert and guru within Reliability and Maintenance. He started his career in the Swedish merchant marine where he started developing fundamentals of his Results Oriented Reliability and Maintenance Management concept. During the last 40 years this concept has
evolved during his time as mechanic crafts person, engineer, manager, consult, educator and philosopher, reliability guru and company leader. As a consultant he started the Idhammar group of
companies in 1972 and his own company in USA 1985 -IDCON, INC in Raleigh North Carolina, USA.

He received the coveted EUROMAINTENANCE Incentive 2002 award during the biannual EUROMAINTENANCE 2002 conference in Helsinki in June 2002. Among 19 member European countries he was nominated and received the award from EFNMS - European Federation of National Maintenance Societies - for outstanding achievement and world wide accomplishments in the field of reliability and maintenance. He received the Best Presentation Award all categories at Euromaintenance 200 conference in Brussels.

Andrew Jardine, University of Toronto

Andrew Jardine Professor Jardine is Director of the Centre for Maintenance Optimization and Reliability Engineering (C-MORE) and Professor Emeritus in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, both at the University of Toronto, Canada. He studied at the Royal College of Science and Technology, Scotland and obtained his undergraduate and Master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Strathclyde, Scotland. He was awarded his PhD in Engineering Production by the University of Birmingham, England.

Professor Jardine wrote the book,“Maintenance, Replacement and Reliability”, first published in 1973 and now in its 6th printing. He is the co-editor with J.D. Campbell of the 2001 published book “Maintenance Excellence: Optimizing Equipment Life Cycle Decisions”. He co-authored with Dr. A. H. C. Tsang the book “Maintenance, Replacement & Reliability: Theory and Applications”, published by CRC Press, 2006. Professor Jardine co-edited with John D Campbell and J. McGlynn “Asset Management Excellence: Optimizing Life Cycle Decisions”, published by CRC Press, 2011. Dr. Jardine has garnered an impressive array of awards, honours and tributes, including having been the Eminent Speaker to the Maintenance Engineering Society of Australia, as well as the first recipient of the Sergio Guy Memorial Award from the Plant Engineering and Maintenance Association of Canada in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the Maintenance profession. In 2008 Dr. Jardine received the Award for The Best Paper; presented in the category of Academic
Developments, and sponsored by the Salvetti Foundation, at the bi-annual conference of the European Federation of National Maintenance Societies, in Brussels.

Ashraf Labib, University of Portsmouth

Ashraf LabibAshraf Labib is a Professor of Operations and Decision Analysis in the Department of Strategy & Business Systems, University of Portsmouth Business School (PBS), United Kingdom. His main research interest lies in the field of Strategic Operations Management and Decision Analysis. This includes Manufacturing, Reliability Engineering and Maintenance Systems, Multiple Criteria Decision-Analysis and Applications of Artificial Intelligence such as Fuzzy Logic. Prior to joining Portsmouth Business School, he was a Senior Lecturer in the Manufacturing Division of the Department of Mechanical, Aerospace and Manufacturing Engineering at UMIST (University of Manchester Institute of Science and technology). He holds a PhD and MSc from Univ. of Birmingham, an MBA from the American University in Cairo, and a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from Univ. of Cairo. He is a Fellow of the Operational Research Society (ORS), a Fellow of the Institute of Engineering Technology (IET) and a Chartered Engineer (CEng). He is also a member of the British Standards (BSI). He has published 110-refereed papers in professional journals and international conferences proceedings. He has received three awards 2008, 2000, and 1999 “Highly Commended Paper Awards”from the Emerald Literati Network, MCB Press.

Ashraf has been active in securing research funds from the British research councils (EPSRC and ESRC) as well as EU funding FP6 and FP7. Professor Labib has been involved in the design, development, and implementation of Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMSs), Stock Control Spares and Ordering Systems for major companies in the automotive sector such as Land Rover, Rockwell, Peugeot Talbot and Federal Mogul – Ferodo. He has also been involved through collaboration and consultancy on Maintenance Best Practice with companies including; Rolls Royce (Aero engines); Intel, the Royal Mail; Rockwell, Meritor Light Vehicle Systems, and Proctor and Gamble. He has also been involved in conducting workshops and teaching modules to various industries such as the Royal Mail (UK), Qatar Gas, and QP (Qatar), ARAMCO and SABIC (Saudi Arabia), PDO (Oman), and Intel (Ireland). Ashraf supervised 5 PhD projects as Director of Studies to completion, and he currentky supervised a strong team of 4 PhD/DBA students.

Anders Lif, IFS World Operations AB

Anders LifAnders is IFS Global Director for Product & Industry Marketing. In this role he is responsible for directing the
global marketing work of IFS. His job contains a lot of interaction with management and customers around the world and Anders spends most of his time travelling.

Starting at Siemens working with automation and control systems in various European countries during 8 years, he joined IFS in 1998.

After many years in the asset intensive industry, Anders used the knowledge he gained in the field to assume R&D responsibility for IFS EAM solutions. For the last couple of years, Anders has been heading up several of IFS industry teams before taking on today’s responsibility as IFS Global Director for Product& Industry Marketing.

Howard Penrose, Dreisilker Electric Motors, Inc.

Howard PenroseDr. Penrose is the Vice President of Dreisilker Electric Motors, Inc., the Outreach Director for the Society for Maintenance and Reliability Professionals (SMRP), the Webmaster for the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, Inc. (IEEE) Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation Society, an active member of MENSA, and a Registered Master APF/AAPF Powerlifter holding four North American records. He is a five time team recipient of the UAW-GM People Make Quality Happen award for energy, reliability and equipment related best practice programs. Dr. Penrose is a Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional and the author of Electrical Motor Diagnostics: 2nd Edition and Physical Asset Management for the Executive.

James Reyes-Picknell, Conscious Group Inc.

James’ experience in Asset Management spans 35 years in a wide variety of industries including military, petro-chemicals, oil and gas, ship-building, aerospace and management consulting in many more including mining, utilities, manufacturing and pharmaceuticals. James is a mechanical engineer (University of Toronto), a best-selling author, a Certified Management Consultant, Professional Engineer, Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional and a member of the Institute of Asset Management, an avid motorcyclist but foremost he is a teacher and coach. James’ book, Uptime, describes successful maintenance practices organized into a framework to be applied in any industrial environment. He knows reliability but is quick to point out that it takes more than technical know how to get results. It’s people, operating in their company processes and culture who create the results. You can buy brains but you must win hearts to get what you want.

Cliff Williams, ERCO Worldwide

Cliff WilliamsCliff Williams is a thirty year plus veteran of the maintenance field and international speaker, who has worked in the Pulp and Paper and Steel industries as well as with food giants Coca Cola, Kraft and Wrigley. His present position at ERCO Worldwide sees him help drive the maintenance performance at their plants in North and South America.

In an effort to give back to the field that has supported him for so many years, Cliff teaches the PEMAC Maintenance Management Professional (MMP) certificatio program at local colleges. In addition Cliff writes for several trade magazines in Canada. Cliff believes that maintenance is first and foremost about People.

Ali Zuashkiani, University of Toronto

Ali ZuashkianiAli Zuashkiani has been involved with many companies in different parts of the world to work beside them when they want to be more effective and efficient in solving their problems. His experience expands to different subjects and industries. He has worked in Oil and Gas, Petrochemical, Electricity Distribution, Alumina, Food, Steel Manufacturing, Copper, Mining, Aluminum, transportation, Car Manufacturing, Gas Distribution, and facilities. He is the director of educational programs at the Center for Maintenance Optimization and Reliability Engineering at the University of Toronto and the author of “Expert Knowledge Based Reliability Models” book.

He has been involved in several life cycle costing management projects in North America and around the world. He is also an RCMII practitioner working with Aladon responsible for RCM implementation in Middle East. His areas of expertise include managing Life Cycle Costing decisions, Reliability Centered Maintenance, maintenance performance management, use of tacit knowledge in asset management, optimization of maintenance tactics, Root Cause Analysis, and implementation of Enterprise Asset Management systems.
